History/ Myths Relating to Badrinath Temple

There are two mythical tales associated with Badrinath. The first claims that Bhakt Narada was able to reach salvation because, according to the Vamana Purana, the two sages Nar and Narayana (the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu) completed their penance here.

Second one says, While looking for a somewhere to meditate, Lord Vishnu in his infant form materialised close to Neelkanth Parvat, where he fell in love with the area close to the Alaknanda River. Then, Lord Vishnu took the form of a child and wept along the Rishi Ganga and Alaknanda rivers (today close to Neelkanth Parvat). His cries reached Goddess Parvati, who immediately felt her heart melt at the sound of them. She brought her consort Lord Shiva to meet the child because she wanted to help him. What do you want, Parvati questioned the child. “The youngster wanted to know where he preferred to meditate. He got his wish from Parvati, and now that spot is venerated as BadriVishal.
